NRM stands for Natural Resources Management.
Our natural resources are everywhere. They are in our bush, around our coast, along our rivers, on our farms and in our cities and towns. In essence our natural resources are our water, soil, plants and animals. Importantly, people are a resource too - our farmers, our landowners and our rural and urban communities.
Natural resources management is about striking a balance between caring for our environment and paying heed to the needs of those who make a living from these resources or use them for leisure and recreation.
Under the NRM Act 2004 , the eight Regional NRM Boards have been established across South Australia. Over the past two years, these boards have been shaped by people who understand natural resources at the local level.
Each Board is responsible for developing a Natural Resources Management Plan for their region. Individual plans will be put into action by local groups using local knowledge and expert advice. Project’s can cover weed management, pest animals, salinity or biodiversity enhancement, to name only a few.
