Background
The Natural Resources Management (NRM) Council was established in South Australia under the terms of the Natural Resources Management Act 2004.
NRM Council is responsible for the provision of advice to the Commonwealth/State Steering Committee on the adequacy of the procedures and processes in the development of regional NRM plans and investment strategies and on the content of those plans and strategies.
In September 2005, the NRM Council approved the establishment of a subcommittee, the Natural Resources Management Council Assessment Subcommittee (NRM CASc) to undertake Council's obligations as set out in the Natural Heritage Trust (NHT) Bilateral Agreement 2003.
The current focus of CASc is to assess the draft regional Natural Resources Management plans. The Adelaide & Mount Lofty Ranges NRM regional plan has already been adopted by the Minister for Environment and Conservation. The remaining 7 regional NRM plans are still in draft form.
