Background
Changes to natural resources management structures in South Australia led to a review of the way that volunteers are engaged in the management of the State’s natural resource.
Following this review the NRM Council endorsed an NRM Volunteer Statement and Framework and the establishment of a broadly based committee as a committee of the NRM Council.
Council subsequently approved the terms of reference for the NRM Volunteer Committee (NRMVC) and a skill set for membership and advertised widely for membership.
The NRM Volunteer Committee will work to ensure statewide consistency in the support to NRM volunteers.
It has a role to influence, to provide strategic direction in the NRM volunteer arena, and to explore and support mechanisms best carried out at a state rather than regional level.
Regional NRM boards will continue to be the front line contact for volunteer groups and individuals.
