The NRM Act 2004 establishes the Natural Resources Management Council as the statewide peak body for natural resources management.
The Natural Resources Management Council has the expertise to advise the State Government about the long term strategic directions for the management of the State’s natural resources.
The Council works with South Australia’s 8 regional NRM boards, other government agencies and peak bodies to collectively implement the State NRM Plan. The State NRM Plan is a five-year plan and is critical to our economic, environmental, social and cultural future and reflects the objectives of South Australia’s Strategic Plan. (See State NRM Plan)
To help with its task the NRM Council is supported by a range of specialised sub-committees.
The Aboriginal Statewide Advisory Committee provides the NRM Council with advice on: Aboriginal engagement mechanisms in NRM regions, investment in Aboriginal NRM activities and encouraging NRM bodies to engage Aboriginal people.
The NRM Volunteer Committee is helping to support and grow the activities of volunteers involved in Landcare, Bushcare, Coastcare, Friends of Parks and other volunteer groups.
The NRM Council Assessment Sub-committee provides advice to the NRM Council on the content of regional NRM plans and investment strategies and the adequacy of the procedures and processes in their development.
